I was never a big fan of shaving lotions--I either used my conditioner or a good ol' bar of soap, but since my organic conditioner is now twice the price of the old stuff, I don't want to waste it. So I've been using a simple recipe (that's barely a recipe at all). Oil + a vanilla bean added in just for a nice scent (Optional--you can just use the oil if you don't have a vanilla bean, but you should have some vanilla beans in your kitchen. Please.). I was using olive oil, but now I'm going to try my sunflower oil (because I decided that I hate the way it tastes in food, so I thought this would be a good way to use it up). Just slice a vanilla bean in half and put both pieces in whatever bottle you have to use that's easy to handle in the shower, and fill it up with oil. The scent will release from the vanilla pretty quickly (especially in the warm atmosphere of a hot shower). Just add more oil when it gets low. The vanilla will last for a long time--ideally, keep the bottle full of enough oil to cover the beans. Shave as usual... Speaking of sharp objects... what kind of razor are you using? Does it have that little strip of "stuff" on it? Hmmm, what's in that, eh? Your best bet is to junk it and go with a plain razor without that lotiony strip to avoid more harmful chemicals going directly into your skin. Ahhhh, happy skin. :) --KD 6/27/13 Updated post HERE.
